STAMP: Rape and Men by CosmicQueenie STAMP: Rape and Men by CosmicQueenie
"Young men need to be socialized in such a way that rape is as unthinkable as cannibalism."

Quote from here.

Inb4 you go onto say "MEN GET RAPED TOO!!!" and "NOT ALL MEN ARE RAPISTS." or "WOMEN CAN RAPE TOO", and so on, yes I know that already. Shut up.

Statistically, there ARE more male-on-female rapes out there. No, I'm NOT saying that female-on-male rape doesn't exist. All I'm saying is that the statistics are lower than male-on-female rape.

This stamp goes for everyone, not just young men.

To me, it's wrong to dictate what women wear. Especially when things such as rape are involved.

"She shouldn't have been wearing such slutty clothes!!"
... This is your excuse? Her clothes provoked you? I should fucking punch you in the face because your stupidity provokes me. In the middle east, women are raped all the time. And you know what happens afterwards? She get's punished. Not him.

It doesn't matter what she wears. It could be overalls to a bikini. In the long run, it's YOU who has to control your urges. It's YOU who needs to keep it in your pants.

Would you blame a man who got mugged for his own assault? No, you wouldn't, because that's a stupid, not to mention, CRUEL thing to do.

"Oh you got robbed even though your house was locked up? WELL IT'S YOUR FAULT FOR HAVING NICE STUFF YOU FUCKING SLUT!"

I should probably stop now because I'll go on forever about this fucked up subject.

Considering the fact that there was a case a few years ago in my country where a man literally ate his girlfriend, and that a lot of rape cases are by the same people, I would say that teaching people not to rape is not going to get us anywhere. What we should do is teach about the fact that psychotic individuals exist in our society and teach how to protect themselves from them, like how to fight them off. It would also help to get more people out side to protect the everyday citizens from assaults. This would be much more efficient then just telling people not to rape, because for most people raping someone is indeed as unthinkable as cannibalism.

There are several things that are taught to people not to do, yet they still do it. For example, bullying, murder, robbery, drugs/drug addiction, drinking and driving, trusting random strangers, etc.

And yet people still do it. Why would this be any different with rape?

(Excuse me, I'm hiding a little comment here because cosmicquenie is lame like flagging comments that contain additional info as spam...

so hrm... what do you think of this article and especially this quote: "there is an alarmingly high rate of sexual abuse by females in the backgrounds of rapists, sex offenders and sexually aggressive men" as opposed to "we should teach men that rape is bad so there wont be any rape ever"?)

But, if we DIDN'T teach that they were wrong, the number of infractions would undoubtedly rise in numbers.

Technically, right now we don't teach rape or rape-like behavior is wrong. In my health class, we never once had a discussion about boundary setting, permission, gray areas, etc.

If we did, the numbers would undoubtedly go down.

Right now, that vacuum is filled by popular culture, which puts pressure on young men to get laid as often as and however possible.

But we do, so..

So your health class is the only health class on Earth? No? Then what's your point?

I really doubt that.

With the popular culture, women are in there as well, and usually, they have the exact same mindset and usually get laid with every popular dude in their school.

We do, and that's good. Because the hypothetical situation posits that we would be worse off if we didn't.

Is mine the only one? What kind of question is that? I just see the activists say we need better discussion and education, and they're the ones that know the larger picture. My personal experience just happens to mesh with that.

Okay, you don't think the numbers will go down. But tell me, what's the harm in trying? If there's even a 10% chance that it would keep ONE person from being violated, it's more than worth a little mental effort on our collective part. 9_9

With culture, women are in a no-win situation. If they have sex, they are seen as sluts, if they don't, they are seen as prudes. Guys are almost always slapped on the back for "scoring," women, not so much. I'm talking about societal reactions to actions, not the actions themselves.

all the stupid comments on here-

anti-misogyny  ≠ pro-misandery,

people, if you really cared that much about men getting raped then instead of complaing about it you would DO something- there are guys out there suffering because you were trying to prove sexism where is wasn't and women suffering because you cant support both genders,

and If you cared about equal rights and hated sexism so much they you would focus equally on both genders rather than just men:| (Blank Stare)

too much stupid- I need caffeine right now=P (Razz)

I know someone who's friends with a guy who was physically and sexually abused by his girlfriend. I actually thought back then that only women could be raped because men were physically stronger. I felt like a fool for thinking that. He said she tied him to a bed and raped him. He said he felt so sinful and so violated. For so long he told nobody, but eventually he was fed up. He told his friends, but guess what they did? Jack shit. They high-fived him and slapped him on the back. He insisted she raped him, but they just said "she thirsty" I was disgusted when I heard that. Eventually, she was arrested. Now whenever he goes to school, he looks at the other girls nervous like they're going to do something. I felt so bad for him, an there's nothing I can do. He is scarred for life and no comforting or coaxing can save that.

I my opinion if a guy suddenly rapes a girl and the guy says her clothes provoked him to do it all  have to say to that guy is.....

F*CK YOU!!!

YOU could've kept your dick in your pants and decided NOT to rape her. THEREFORE its YOUR RESPONSIBLITY to stay off the streets if your going to do stuff like that and go to JAIL!!

GOsh whoever makes an excuse that "its YOUR fault for wearing a skimpy outfit" they need to go get punched multiple times in the face!

I remember that I created an species in which rape is way wronger than cannibalism (it doesn't mean they're cannibals :XD:), and anybody who rapes even once becomes an complete outcast, hated by everyone. So rape in their society is almost inexistant.

And that's what should happen with us. :hmm:

Not that I agree with rape jokes, but those flipping 'edgy' comedians who make rape jokes, and then defend their jokes by saying that men get raped too. I just want to say to them,
"That doesn't matter. Rape jokes are bad, full stop. You aren't edgy. You look like a prat."

Yep, if they were taught that self control as opposed to violence was "manly" it would solve a lot of problems.

Besides that, rape isn't necessary. If someone can't find someone to have consensual sex with, they are clearly just not trying. It's not like most people make it much of a challenge.

It's sad, really.

In a study done on a campus, several men admitted that they would commit rape if they could get away with it.

Yes, but maybe this should help start up a campaign that gives men the impression that they WON'T get away with it (by encouraging victims to speak up). Plenty of people would steal if they could get away with it too, that's why guard dogs, home security systems and guns are there. Still, the fact they admit to "if they could get away with it" part means they know it's wrong, otherwise they wouldn't worry about getting caught.

That, and helping people to not become victims (giving them self-defense classes and informing them on ways to avoid getting into compromising situations. Things like "know your limit" so they don't get too drunk at a party, or if they see someone slipping something in someone's drink, walk up and dump the drink and tell the person what happened. Don't go down dark alleys or really isolated sections...).

Yeah, but even if a woman (or man) can defend themselves, the element of surprise can always stun a person, make them shocked and so on.

I know it won't guarantee 100% protection, I don't think anything can, but it will help reduce the risk as much as possible. Would-be victims are prepared, would-be criminals are made to fear the consequences and be paranoid that it WILL be found out. But it won't stop it all from happening. :(

Shouldn't cannibalism be less of a crime since the act itself is harmless to everyone (save the cannibal) unless the cannibal had an actual hand in the death of the person. It's sick, of course, but rape hurts people so much.

I kind of agree, same with necrophilia. Murdering someone to satisfy your urges is unnacceptable, but if it's a dead body already? who is being harmed?
